On time out we go on this day of 25 kph trades going to a buoy far away. There we baited and got no hits so we jigged and the aku were biting real good, it was doubles every time. We ran an aku live and kept on jigging and the aku kept on biting. When we baited again still no hits. These guys did great on all these fish, good going men. This was Bert's first time on our new boat a 38 mediteranean. Aloha Capt Rusty

In the dark off we go with 25 kph trades going to my next favorite buoy. The buoy was still comatose som we trolled out to about 25 out and then faded down but we found nothing anywhere. When we got inside we found a mahi and Scot hooked it up and we got it. Back in the harbor Tom  and Rob were glad to eat mahi eyeballs , good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

At first light off we go with trades blowing at 25 kph going to  my next favorite buoy. Along the way we took a double ono and landed both of them, a great way to start the day. At the buoy it looked good on the fathometer but we baited and jigged and could not get a bite, so off we go doing it the old fashioned way. We found some big aku schools but could not get them to bite. At another buoy we baited but nothing came in. And we saw one open school of mahi that broke up when we got there. These guys did great with the fish we caught and were fun to have aboard. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  The Roland Family Joe, Sean Michael, Joe Jr and Dick caught 1 ono and 1 big ulua for a fun day
We started off on time going south with 25 kph trades. Along the way we took an ono hit and Dick landed a nice one. Then it looked good with lots of birds and porpoise but no hits. We went out deep and ended up at a buoy and the porpoise were there. Then we saw a mahi but it did not come in on our baits. Then as we crossed kaena point in 40 feet of water we hooked this big ulua, Scot had to push the drag to full to keep it out of the rocks. Then Sean and Joe reeled in a monster 50 pound ulua, if fought like a tank, good going you guys did great today. Back in the harbor both Joes ate eyeballs gladly, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

At first light off we go on this day of 25 kph trades going to my next favorite buoy.
At the buoy we baited but got no hits, jigged and got no bites so off we go. Somewhere along the 1,000 fathom we took a blind strike and a nice ahi screamed out 400 yards fast, then with help from me and Scot Chris had this 156 pounder to the boat in about 35 minutes. It was a great fight, this was a strong fish, and Chris hung onto it, good going. On our way in we found an open school and Chris baited up a nice mahi on 60 and landed it, that was sporty. Back in the harbor Chris ate an eyeball out of his ahi, good going see you next time. Aloha Capt Rusty

With 20+ kph trades blowing we headed for a west side buoy. There we baited but got no hits so we jigged and caught a few aku. When we baited again still no bites, so we jigged and ran an aku live. Eventually a couple big mahi came behind our aku and Scot baited up a big bully that gave john a great fight on a shimano 30 tiagra. Then the porpoise came and spoiled it all by eating anthing we hooked up. These guys did super on this rough day good gong men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Tessa Castille, Tally Yarbrough, Steve Castille, Tara Castille and Jansen Yarbrough caught 7 mahi 1 ahi and 14 aku for a super day of fishing
Right on time and off we go on this day of 20+ kph trades going to a west side buoy. At the buoy we baited but got no hits so we jigged and were getting doubles on the small aku. When we baited again still no bites, so more aku and we ran one live. Then a big mahi showed up on our aku and Scot quickly baited it up and Tally landed a nice 38 pound bully on 80. Baiting again we got baraged by mahi and Scot baited up 5 in one pass, it was wild action. Next pass and we hook another mahi, and an ahi on 80 that Jansen fought for almost 2 hour before it came to the boat all spent and sorta easy at gaff, great job on playing that fish all the way. It went 130 pounds, a real nice fish. These folks did great on this rough day of big seas, they were a pleasure to have aboard, hope to see you guys next time you come here. Aloha Capt Rusty

For all we did that was a fast drydock, all is good to go now. Drydock is too much like work, ask Scot he put in some hot hours wrenching that trany in and out. Now it's back to fishing. Aloha Capt Rusty

Scot and I have been putting in some long days getting all the things that needed to be done finished. It looks like Monday we can go back in the water and motor back to Haleiwa. Scot has probably lost 10 pounds sweating his butt off in the engine compartment. Good going Scot you da man. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Here's Scot and the problem, a stripped damper plate.
It took Scot a lot of time in the hot cramped quartes of the engine compartment to get the transmision unbolted and pull it off to find the damper plate that absorbs the shock of in and out of gear had worn out and was slipping. That is good news cuse we have a spare ready to go, so unless we run into more complications Monday is splash day and Tuesday back in service. More as we go. Aloha Capt Rusty
