We got going at our usual time on this day of 25 mph trades going to our usual buoy. We took an ono hit on the first pass and got it. Then we caught some live baits and ran them, only to have an ono chop one off. After a while a mahi came along and ate a bait and as it came close we saw it had a buddy with it so Scot hooked it up too. Then a very large shark made a big explosion on the second mahi and was all over it, the shark got the back half of it and we got the front half. Then we hooked a shibi and Andrew reeled it up a nice 41 pound big eye tuna. Then Kent got one on and landed it and his was 42 pounds but not a big eye. Back in the harbor both of these guys were game to eat eyeballs, good going men. They did great all the way around. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was 4:00 as we left on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. On the way I counted 28 meteors, a new record. At the buoy we caught a mahi on the first pass, then took a double mahi ono on the next pass and only got the ono. We got 2 more ono before we started to catch bait. Before long a mahi came along and Scot baited it up and we got it. When we made a bait pass Scot hooked 2 more mahi and some small shibi. Next bait pass and Jon hooked a 45 pound shibi and did a great job of reeling it in. On our way in we took 3 hits from 2 marlin and one hooked up on the center pole, it took out 500 yards of line and only shook its head out of the water once no jumps at all. Jon did an outstanding job reeling this big fish in after all the fish he got at the buoy. It took about an hour and a half and it came up almost dead the way we like it. In the harbor I had to eat an eyeball out of the marlin for Jons daughters, that's the best part for them. Great job Jon, this will be a hard day to top next year. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was 4:00 as we left the harbor on this day of 20+ mph trades going to my favorite buoy. On our first pass at the buoy we took a triple ono and got them all. Then we caught some aku and ran them live only to have an ono chop one in half. When we baited Scot hooked a 20 pound shibi and we got it and some smaller ones too. On the way in we found an open school of mahi and got one. This was a rainy windy day and rough at times. In the harbor only Lin was game to eat an eyeball, good man. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got underway at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. No hits trolling at the buoy so we caught some aku and ran them live. The shibie are not as hot on bait as they were but we got some small ones, then a big mahi came up and ate one of our aku and hooked up, we got it. Then we set up and trolled out and found a school of big aku and got 2. We went back to the bouy and got an ono trolling by. Then we baited and Scot hooked a 41 pound shibi and Jon did a great job reeling it in. Jon is an avid fisherman and a regular with us. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 5:00 start on this day of 20 mph trades going to a different buoy. We got some aku and ran them live, then Ben got a nice size  shibi. A few more small aku and Casey got a big shibi too. We ran the 40 fathom ledge looking for an ono but they did not bite for us. In the harbor only I was up for an eyeball. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 5:00 start on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. When we got there it was not what we wanted to see, the birds and the fish had left the buoy. We did all the things we usually do but there was no fish there for us so we headed on out. We found a few small floaters but nothing big enough, so we went to a different buoy and when we baited a big mahi came out and chewed our bait then hooked up on the corner lure. Jim did a good job of reeling it in. Then we went to one more bouy and nobody was home. We took one slam on the center but it came off. Then we found a open school of mahi and had one big mahi look at our bait but not eat them. These guys did good . No eyeball eaters here. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got underway at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we took a hit but it came off so we jigged and got some live aku out there. When we baited the shibi did not come up like they had been, but we got a few on bait. They were hitting the worm well so that is what we gave them. Mark did well reeling these fish in. It was real good fun fishing with mark. In the harbor he was a eager eyeball eater, I like it. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was 4:00 when we got moving on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We got our ono on the first pass at the buoy. Then we jigged and got some aku and ran them live. When we baited there was not as much fish comming up to feast on it. They were still going for the small lures on light line. The times they are a changing, at the buoy. Back in the harbor I was the only one to eat an eyeball today. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Tavo and Nick Soto caught some aku and shibi for some light tackel fun
We got underway at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we took no hits so we jigged and got some live aku out, it took a little while but a big ugly barracuda came along and hooked up jumped and came off. Two other baits were chopped by onos. Our pet shibi at the buoy were not comming up to eat our chum, but they were taking our trolling tackel. Back in the harbor Tavo was up for an eyeball. These guys did good on these fish. Aloha Capt rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  The Andersen Family Austin, Pandy, Jace and, Chuck caught 1 ono and one big shibi and a bunch of smaller ones
We left at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we caught baits and ran them live, then baited. The shibi were comming up on the bait well, and Scot was getting 2 or 3 a pass. Then we got one bigger one on and got it. We also got our ono on a small jig on light line. It is getting harder to get them to bite at the bouy these days. Back in the harbor everyone but Angie ate eyeballs gladly, I like it . Aloha Capt Rusty
