Into the predawn we go on this day of 20 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. On the way we had an ono hit and Ken landed a nice ono. At the buoy we took a double and landed 1 mahi on our first pass. When we came back with bait it took a few passes before we hooked a mahi and it came aboard. We jigged and got no bites, so we baited again and got nothing. On our way in we found some mahi and Scot baited one up and we got it all the way to the boat and it came off the hook. Right outside the harbor we landed a small aku. At the dock only Bill and Bob were bold enough to eat ono eyeballs, good going guys, see you tomorrow. Aloha Capt Rusty

Right on time on this day of 20 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. On the way we found a school of small shibi and caught 3, this is the size that is at the buoy too, they are only a few months old. At the buoy we baited and Scot hooked a small mahi and it came aboard. A few more passes and Scot got 2 more on one pass and we got them both. The birds at the buoy are a pain in the you know what, they eat almost all the bait Scot throws out. These folks were real troopers today. Aloha Capt Rusty

Out we go on this day of 20 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. There we hooked a small mahi on our first pass and Kathy landed it. We came back with bait and had a few bites but nothing stayed on. We jigged and had a small mahi on but it came off, there are no tuna on any of our buoys now. This is what can happen at this time of year, the big tuna leave and soon a new batch of super small ones will move in. We baited again and had a mahi on but it came off, we did get a bird but had to let it go. We set up and trolled to a different bouy but there was nothing at all there. Back at the dock Stephen and Kathy were the bold ones to eat mahi eyeballs gladly, good going you guys did real good today. Aloha Capt Rusty

At the appointed time off we go on this day of 15 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. There we baited and caught 3 mahi in about 6 passes around the buoy. The bird life at the buoy was only on us they were not working on the fish at all, and no tunas were present at all. So we set up and trolled to another buoy where we saw some mahi but could not get them to bite. We trolled the ledge but got no ono hits. We had one small  fish hit just outside the harbor but it came off. These guys did great today, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

In the twilight we set forth on this day of 10 kph trades going to my new favorite buoy. Half way there we had a marlin slam the rigger hard and hit it a few more times but missed the hooks, bummer, it looked big. At the bouy we baited but took no hits, so we jigged and caught some small aku and shibi and ran an aku live. It was too slow so we set up and trolled to another buoy. There we baited and got a small mahi, next few passes no mahi show, then a nice marlin comes in and eats a bait on 80 pound test no leader on a tiagra 50. Ben is the angler as we back down as fast as we can as this fish jumped a lot, which was a good thing. In about 30 minutes Ben had it to the boat, a great battle, and it was tame at gaff, thank you very much. Back at the buoy the mahi are more bold and we bait up 2 more mahi. These guys did real good on all these fish today. Aloha Capt Rusty

There was a light mist falling as we pulled out on this day of 25 kph trades going to my new favorite buoy. There we jigged and caught some small aku and ran one live. Our aku got chopped by a barracuda. Then we baited and only birds came, so we set up and trolled to another buoy. At this buoy we baited and Scot hooked some small mahi, 2 passes with 2 each time and 2 singles, great action on light line. When we jigged we landed 1 aku and 1 shibi. These guys did good today. Aloha Capt Rusty

At the right time we got out on this day of 25 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. On the way we found a mahi and an ono that joined us. Then on our way back in we found a school and caught 3 more mahi and a nice ono too. The ono took some fast manuvering to keep it from running around the boat, the beauty of a 31 bertram her nimbleness is why we landed this fish. These guys did great today on all these fish. Back at the dock both Jim and Mike ate ono eyeballs galdly, good going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

In the early twilight out we go on this day of 25 kph trades going to my new favorite buoy. There we had an ono chop our outrigger lure, but missed the hook. As we were reeling in to bait,  the center hooked a 20 pound aku and Jessica landed a new year to date record aku. When we came back with bait Scot hooked a small mahi and it came aboard. Next pass a 10 pound shibi eats a bait and we get it. Then a bait goes and Karen lands a 42 pound barracuda snagged in the side. Then we set up and trolled out and came in at another buoy, where we hooked 3 more small mahi, and got chopped off a few times too. These folks did real good on all these fish today. Aloha Capt Rusty

Right on time and out we go on this day of 25 kph trades going to my new favorite buoy. There we baited and nothing except birds ate it. So we jigged and caught a few small aku and ran 2 live, and caught more aku. When we baited again only birds again. jigging was the most fun so that's what we did. These folks did good. Aloha Capt Rusty

The new suggested departure time is 5:10, thats about when we set out on this day of 25+ kph trades going to my new favorite buoy. There we jigged and caught a few small aku and ran 2 live. One aku got chomped by a big barracuda, so we put the other one on a wire. When we baited Scot had a few big fish hit but come off, so we jigged and caught some shibi and aku, the largest a 12 pounder. Brent did great on this rough day of big waves, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty
