We left at 6:00 this morning to run the ledge in the light on the way to my next favorite buoy on this day of 15 mph winds. We got our first ono outside Waimea, then we missed one at Sunset and then got one at the hotel. At the buoy we caught 2 aku and ran one live just in time to pull it into some mahi, and Scot hooked two but only stuck one, and we got it. The shibi were reluctant so we trolled out and then in. In the harbor only Dean was  bold enough to eat an eyeball. Good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 4:00 start on this day of 15 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we jigged and got some small aku and shibi and ran them live. An ono chopped 2 of our baits in half, and did not hookup. We jigged some more and got some more small to medium shibi and aku. Then we set up and trolled outside, no hits. On the way home we got a nice ono and then we had to tow another boat in that had a trans problem in to the harbor. Teddy did a great job on all these fish. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 5:00 start on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. On the way we had an ono hit and got it. At the buoy we jigged and caught some small aku and shibi and ran them live. When we baited a couple of nice mahi came along and Scot hooked them up. One more mahi came along and Scot got that one too. The shibi were up but only the 8 pounders. These guys did great reeling all these fish in. No eyeballs were consumed here. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Greg Potwin, James Hull, and Emmett Butler caught 2 mahi 1 ono and a bunch of small aku and shibi
We got going at 6:30 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. On our first pass we took an ono hit and got it, next pass we had a mahi hit and got it too. Then we jigged and got some live aku and ran them. The aku are back at the buoy today and biting good. The big shibi are not . A mahi came by and Scot baited it up and we got it. Then the UH buoy boat came and started working on the buoy. We had something big eat an aku as we reeled it in, James had fun for a short time before it broke line. The one guy on the buoy boat was having a hard time doing what ever it was he was doing, and the bottom part of the buoy broke off, so he had to hook the anchor line on to the eyehook that is on top of the buoy. So now the buoy is upside down, but it is still there. In the harbor Greg was the bold one to eat an eyeball, not his first one. These guys did great. Aloha Capt Rusty

We took off at 6:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took an ono  hit at the buoy and got it. When we jigged we got a shibi and ran it live. When we baited Scot hooked a 47 pound mahi on 60 pound test and Annette did a great job of reeling it in. On another bait pass Scot hooked a rainbow runner and Mike got it. Then a mahi came around and Scot finally got it to eat, and Mike got it. The aku have run away from the buoy, for some reason, they were hard to catch today. These folks did a great job all the way around. Aloha Capt Rusty

4:00 was our departure time on this day of 20 mph trades going to my favorite buoy. On our second pass at the buoy we took a triple 2 small aku and 1 big 47 pound shibi. Then we jigged end caught a lot of aku and ran them live. When we baited we got some aku and a few shibi, then a mahi came by and Scot hooked it up but it came off. Later Scot baited up a nice mahi. Then Rick got a 21 pound aku. As we jigged around a big marlin came by and looked at our live bait but did not eat it. A few mahi came by and Scot baited up 3 more, 2 big 30 pound bullys, all on 80 pound test. In the harbor I was the only one to eat an eyeball. These guys did a real great job on all of these fish, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going at 4:00 on this day of 20+ mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took and aku hit at the buoy but it came off, so we put the light line out and caught some aku and ran them live. The aku were biting good so we trolled. When Scot baited one time he hooked a nice big shibi and Keith did a great job of pulling that fish in, while we had that one on Scot hooked a nice mahi for Monika and she got it too. In the harbor both Keith and Monika ate the lenses out of the eyeballs, Monika even liked it so much that she ate both of the eyeballs out of her mahi, I like it. These folks did real well considering how snappy it was out there today, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got underway at 4:00 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We lost a small aku on our first pass, then we jigged and got some aku and ran them live. We got a few 10 pound shibi, then Joel got a 20 pound aku. Then we baited and got 1 shibi. Before we left an ono chopped one of our baits in half. On the way in we got the 3 small mahi in a school outside waimea. In the harbor both Joel and Cindy were up for eyeballs, Joel even asked for seconds and got them. These were some fun to fish with folks, Joel loves to fish and it shows. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Thresa and Tom Young caught 2 big shibi one a 70 pounder and some smaller ones
We took off at 4:00 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my favorite buoy. No hits trolling so we caught some baits and ran them live. We took some hits that came off, then Scot baited up a nice 30 pound shibi and Tom did a good job on it and we got it. We kept baiting and only got some mid size shibi. Then just as we were getting ready to leave Tom jigged up a 70 pound shibi on 60 pound test, an hour and a half later he got it to the boat. It was an epic battle and Tom did a super job, he did'nt miss a beat. That is the biggest shibi this year on light line that we have caught, good going Tom. It was a pleasure to fish with these folks. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was 4:00 when we took off on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. No hits at the buoy, so we jigged and ran some live baits. We had  onos chop 2 of them in half and not hookup. When we baited Scot hooked 1 big shibi and Rick got to reel it in. Greg hooked the biggest rainbow runner we have ever caught 14 pounds and got it. We jigged some more and got a few more shibi and aku. No hits on the way in. These guys did good for what we had to work with. Aloha Capt Rusty
