We left the harbor right on time.  It was a little overcast, but otherwise a real nice day.  We headed to the ledge and ran bait.  We had a mahimahi strike and Dawn reeled in a small mahimahi.  Then Chris reeled in small mahimahi.  A little while later we took a double mahimahi strike and Chris and Dawn each landed a nice sized mahimahi.  We tried another spot and caught on more mahimahi.  A short while later one of our poles took off screaming.  Dawn took the chair and did a great job battling a 30 pound yellowfin on light tackle.  Dawn had it all the way to the boat, then we broke the leader at gaff and the buggar got away.  Bummer!  Guess it's mahimahi for dinner.  We missed a couple other strikes today and saw some pilot whales.  We had fun fishing with you again, and look forward to your October trip.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time in 10-15 kph trades.  We headed up the point, ran bait and started hooking mahimahi.  We landed three before the bites shut down.  We headed to another area and on the troll there, we hooked an ono.  Robert took the chair and reeled in a 22 pound ono.  Dinner just got better!  We got to our destination and ran bait.  The mahimahi were biting and everyone got to reel one in.  It was overcast most the day, then poured on us when we got to the harbor.  Great fishing everyone!  Hope to see you again.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at our scheduled time in 10-15 kph trades.  We headed out, then came back and ran the ledge.  We hooked a yellowfin tuna and James reeled in a 9 pounder.  A while later we hooked a mahimahi and Sam reeled in a 10 pounder.  We needed to have our group back to the harbor by 11 am, so we set the trolling lines and headed home.  No bites on the way in, but still a real fun day.  It was a pleasure having you onboard and hope to see you again.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at 5:05 am in light and variable winds.  We went to the ledge and missed a double ono strike.  Both took line then came off.  We came back and made another pass.  Our outrigger came down and Matthew landed a 6 pound kawa kawa.  A little later our corner took off.  Barry jumped in the chair and reeled in a nice ono.  We trolled some more and took a mahimahi bite.  As we were reeling it in we had a couple other strikes and landed them all.  The mahimahi kept biting, and we landed a total of eight.  No bites on the way to the harbor but we will all be eating well tonight.  Great fishing men!  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

We left right on time in 5-15 kph trades.  We headed out and hadn't gotten very far, when Derrick got a call that his wife was in labor.  We brought the soon-to-be daddy in, and headed back out.  We ran bait on the ledge but no bites.  We set the trolling lines back up and 15 minutes later our outrigger came down.  Michael hopped in the chair and landed a 30 pound ono.  We trolled some more and found a bird pile with aku.  Everyone had fun reeling them in.  We caught eleven 5-10 pounders.  Then we headed down and caught 6 mahimahi, a nice end to the day.  Great fishing men!  It was a pleasure fishing with you again.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time in 10 - 20 kph trades.  We headed towards the west side and ran bait.  We hooked and landed a small mahimahi.  Then we had a few more bites and a few stolen baits.  A little later we hooked and landed a 12 pound kawa kawa (wavy back skipjack tuna).  We missed another bite, then our outrigger came down and fish on.  Zach took the chair and a half hour later had a 37 pound yellowfin tuna onboard.  No bites on the ride home, but these folk will be eating well tonight.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at 5 am in light winds.  It was one of the nicest days we've seen the past few weeks.  We went by a crab trap and hooked and landed a small mahimahi.  Then we headed to the west side, found a school of porpoise, and hooked an ahi.  Garry took the chair and reeled in a 100 pounder.  Good job!  No other bites on the way to the harbor, but still a successful day.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Doug Gismondi, Dylan Droege, & Jeff Droege caught 4 mahimahi, 2 ono, 1 aha, 1 aku, & 3 kawa kawa
We left the harbor at 5am in 10-20 kph trades.  We headed west and ran bait.  We took a hit and Dylan jumped in the chair and reeled in a 4 pound kawa kawa (wavy back skipjack tuna).  A little while later we took a double mahimahi hookup.  One came off and Jeff landed the other one, weighing 14 pounds.  Then we took another strike and Dylan began reeling.  It jumped and we could see it was an aha (poor man's marlin).  Dylan did a great job landing it.  That aha put up a good fight even after it was on the boat.  It was taller than Dylan and refused to take a picture.  We headed down and landed a few small tuna.  Then we started to head back to the harbor and took a double strike.  One stuck and Doug took the chair and landed a 19 pound ono.  We trolled the ledge and took a double mahimahi strike on bait.  Jeff landed a 17 pound mahimahi, and Doug was still reeling.  Right before we could gaff it, it came off and got away.  Bummer!  That was one nice fish!  We came back with more bait and hooked and landed 2 more smaller mahimahi.  Then we hooked an ono on 50# test.  Jeff hopped in the chair and the battle was on.  It was foul hooked and came up hard.  Jeff got a good work out before landing a 22 pound ono.  Great end to the day!  We had fun fishing with you and talking story.  Hope to see you again real soon.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor a little after 5 am in 15-25 kph trades.  On the way to the buoy, our outrigger came down and fish on!  Vartan jumped in the chair and landed a 22 pound ono.  A little later we had another ono strike, but it didn't stick.  We got to the buoy, ran bait, but no bites.  We set the trolling lures back up and headed out.  We came across a rubbish pile and took a triple mahimahi hookup, and landed two.  Then we hooked and landed an ono.  We switched to bait and started catching mahimahi.  Then we hooked a marlin.  It jumped, put on a good show, then shook the hook and swam away.  We hooked a mahimahi followed by something big on our light pole that took a lot of line.  We landed the mahimahi, then went to work on the big fish.  John jumped in the chair and the battle began.  After a 25 minute fight John had a 70 pound yellowfin tuna onboard.  No easy task on 50# test.  Good job!  We caught a couple more mahimahi then it was time to head back to the harbor.  We caught one more mahimahi on the troll home.  Great fishing men!  It was a pleasure having you onboard and look forward to fishing with you again.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve
