Thursday, February 27, 2014
We left the harbor at day break in 15-25 kph trades.  On the way to our first buoy, we hooked a mahimahi.  Adam reeled in a nice 18 pounder, which puts him on our 2014 scoreboard, beating the previous record by 4 pounds.  Way to go Adam!  We hadn't reached the buoy when half our crew voted to come in early, so we headed towards the harbor.  On our way in we hooked and caught another nice mahimahi, which can be eaten at Haleiwa Joe's tonight.  The Perkins family, Steve, and I will be eating the other one.  Everyone got to see whales, which always adds to the day.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time.  It was almost too nice of a day.  We had a center knockdown on the way to the buoy, but it didn't stick.  We ran some live baits around, but no bites.  We jigged and caught a couple small yellowfin tuna and a few skipjack tuna.  We headed out deep looking for something bigger, but nothing there.  We headed to another buoy and ran some more live bait, but no takers.  So we jigged and caught 2 more small yellowfin and a few more skipjack tuna.   We were looking hard and saw lots of humpback whales and pilot whales, but no bird piles.  We tried the ledge on the way in, but no bites.  It was a pleasure being in the company of some of our finest military.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

Friday, February 21, 2014
We rolled out of the harbor while it was still dark.  We headed to a buoy, and right before we got there, our center pole took a hit but it didn't stick.  We dropped a bait and finally got him to bite.  Daniel reeled in a 33 pound short nose spearfish, and in a short amount of time.  Great job Daniel!  At the buoy we ran some bait but no bites.  We jigged around and caught skipjack tuna and small yellowfin tuna.  We threw some of the smallest yellowfin back.  On our way to our next buoy we had a mystery strike on our outrigger, probably another small marlin, but it didn't take.  We baited at the buoy and hooked a mahimahi.  David reeled in a nice 14 pounder.  Then we jigged and caught more small yellowfin and skipjack tuna.  No other bites but we did see whales on the way in. It was a pleasure having you aboard.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at 7am and started seeing whales right off the bat.  We headed to a buoy in nice weather conditions.  As we got to the buoy, 4 lines hooked up, making for a little Chinese fire drill.  We landed four yellowfin tuna.  We made another pass and caught one more yellowfin.  We put out bait and continued catching.  We started jigging and bites were steady.  We were landing skipjack tuna and more yellowfin.  We had a few doubles, and lots of single hookups.  The porpoise showed up right at the end, and got most of a 15 pound yellowfin.  We reeled in a head only.  We saw pilot whales and humpback whales in the same area.  No bites on the way in but we caught 15 nice size yellowfin, 4 small yellowfin, and 6 aku.  Great fishing everyone!  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve
