We left the harbor right on time in 15-20 kph trades.  We headed to a buoy with no strikes on the way.  We tried live bait at the buoy, but no takers.  We jigged and started catching small yellowfin tuna.  Then Stephen jigged up a mahimahi.  We jgged some more and caught skipjack tuna and more yellowfin.  We headed for another buoy hoping for something bigger.  We baited at the buoy and hooked a mahimahi.  Stephen reeled in a nice 16 pounder.  Then we jigged and caught a few more skipjack and yellowfin tuna.  No other bites, but we saw a few whales.   Another successful day on the Kuuloa Kai.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at daybreak and headed to a buoy.  We ran live bait at the buoy but couldn't get any bites.  We started jigging and caught a couple yellowfin.  Then Ian jigged up a mahimahi and reeled in a nice 15 pounder.  Way to go Ian!  It was slow, but we jigged up another yellowfin and four skipjack tuna.  It was a beautiful day, we saw whales close to the boat, and everyone had something to reel in.  Congratulations to Josh on your recent marriage.  Hope to see you all again.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

Thursday March 6, 2014
We left the harbor at dawn and headed to our first buoy.  No bites on live bait, so we decided to jig.  We started catching small yellowfin and skipjack tuna.  We wanted something bigger, so we headed to another buoy.  No bites there, so we headed to a third buoy.  On the way we spotted Aku birds and headed that direction, hoping for mahi.  We drove by the birds, the center came down, and fish on!  Joe reelerd in a nice mahimahi.  While Joe was reeling, we hooked a second one, and Rachel reeled it in.  No action at the buoy or on the way home, but we did see plenty whales all day.  It was a pleasure having you aboard.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time and headed to a buoy.  We baited up and started catching 10-15 pound yellowfin tunas.  It was pretty steady fishing with several double hookups.  We saw a couple mahimahi, but they didn't stick.  We started jigging and caught some small yellowfin and skipjack tuna.  We tried more live bait and chunk bait, but nothing else was biting.  On the way in we saw something big make a pass on our center rig lure.  We teased him a bit and got him to bite.  David Hayes reeled in a 30 pound short-nosed spearfish.  We saw whales everywhere today.  Another beautiful day on the Kuuloa Kai.  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve

Monday, March 3, 2014
We left the harbor at 6:15 am in high surf and west winds.  It was a choppy ride to the buoy, but it did smooth out later in the day.  We trolled at the buoy and hooked a skipjack tuna on our outrigger.  We came back with bait and started hooking 12-15 pound yellowfin tunas.  Kabet even caught two on one line!  One was tail wrapped and the other was hooked in the mouth. Then Kabet hooked and landed a 14 pound mahimahi.  We started jigging and caught some smaller yellowfin and skipjack tunas.  It was steady action all day.  We got to see whales jumping close to the boat, and Robilynn got some nice photos.  We caught two more skipjack tuna on the way in.  This is the Sterk's 5th time fishing with us, and we hope to see them again.  Aloha Scot & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at first light and headed to our first buoy.  We baited up and hooked a yellowfin tuna.  We almost had two, but the other ripped the bait, and came off.  Chris reeled in a nice 15 pound yellowfin.  We came back with more bait and hooked another yellowfin.  Ken reeled in a nice 15 pounder.  We came back and hooked one more, and Deb also got to reel in a 15 pound yellowfin.  We headed down and hooked another yellowfin on our outrigger.  Chris reeled in another nice 15 pound yellowfin.   We dragged bait for awhile with no bites, so we headed to another buoy.  On our way there, our center slammed down and we had a 200 pound marlin online.  He shook his head a few times, and came off the hook.  We continued to our buoy, but nobody home, so we headed down the 500 fathom curve.  Half way to the harbor, we hooked a mahimahi and Ken reeled in a 14 pound bull.  Dinner just got better!  We saw whales jumping everywhere, plus it was a beautiful day.  Great fishing everyone!  Aloha, Scot & Captain Steve
