We left the harbor at 6am in 15-25 kph trades.  On our first pass by the buoy, our center lure came down, and we had a mahimahi online.  While we were reeling it in we baited up and hooked another mahimahi and a yellowfin tuna.  Winfield and Doug landed them all.  We trolled by again, but no strikes, so we cleared the trolling lines and switched to baiting and jigging.  We jigged up a half dozen yellowfin, but threw a couple of the small ones back.  We took a double mahimahi strike on bait and landed them both.  Then we caught three nice sized yellowfin. Two on bait and one jigging. The bites slowed down, so we headed to another buoy. We baited up and hooked and landed a mahimahi.  Then we took a double strike and while Winfield and Doug were reeling them in, we hooked another.  We landed all three.  We jigged up some small yellowfin, but tossed back more than we kept. No bites on the ride home.  It was rough seas today, but these men did great.  It was fun fishing with you and hope to see you again.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time in 15-20 kph trades.  On the way to our buoy, we missed 2 strikes on our center lure.  Then 4 lines took a hit at once, but they all came off.  They came back and this time one stuck.  Dan jumped in the chair and 10 minutes later we ha a 45 pound striped marlin onboard.  This puts Dan on our top angler scoreboard for 2015.  Way to go Dan!  At the buoy we took a hit but it didn't stick.  We ran some baits and started jigging.  We hooked a mahimahi and landed it.  Then we hooked two yellowfin on bait.  We lost one, but landed the other.  We went back up, baited and took a double mahimahi strike, and landed them both.  We were jigging up small yellowfin, throwing the smallest ones back.  When things slowed we headed for another buoy.  On the way, our corner pole took off and we hooked and landed a mahimahi.  At the buoy we put out baits and landed another mahimahi.  On the way back to the harbor we caught a small yellowfin then our lure hooked a mahimahi and we landed it too.  Great fishing everyone!  It was a pleasure having you onboard.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right at 6:15 in light winds and no rain.  We headed to a buoy with no bites on the way.  At the buoy, we threw out a couple baits and started to jig.  We hooked a yellowfin jigging then two mahimahi.  Then we hooked a bigger yellowfin and three more mahimahi.  We had seven online and everyone was reeling like mad.  We landed them all.  We continued catching mahimahi and yellowfin for hours of torpedo fun.  We hit another buoy on the way home, caught a couple yellowfin on the way there plus had two more yellowfin get eaten by a toothy critter.  By some great stroke of luck, we hooked him right in the corner of his mouth.  Matthew jumped in the chair and battled in a 55 pound barracuda.  This puts Matthew on our top angler scoreboard for 2015.  Way to go Matt!  We lost a couple baits today, but once hooked, we caught everyone.  Great fishing Men!  It was a stellar catch and a whole lot of fun.  We look forward to fishing with you again.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor in light winds and passing showers. We headed to a buoy and our center lure took a strike.  Wanda hopped in the chair and landed a mahimahi.  We reset the lure and the port outrigger took a hit.  We had another mahimahi online and it was jumping.  It put up a fight, but Heath landed it.  We set up again, and this time took a double.  William and Matt each landed a mahimahi.  We kept hooking mahimahi, and everyone got to reel one in.  We tried jigging and hooked a bunch of small yellowfin, but threw the puny ones back.  We jigged up two more mahimahi, landed them, then one of our baits hooked another.  William jumped in the chair and reeled in a 30 pound mahimahi.  This is the biggest mahimahi of the year, and puts William on our 2015 top angler scoreboard.  Way to go!  Heath landed another mahimahi, then we hooked a nice size yellowfin in it's side.  He put up a good fight, but William landed it. Then we hooked another yellowfin and Wanda reeled in a 15 pounder.  We hit another buoy on our way in and hooked one last mahimahi.  Heath reeled him in in record time.  Great fishing everyone!  It was another great day on the Kuuloa Kai.  We enjoyed fishing with you and hope to see you again.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor right on time in 15-20 kph trades.  We got to our first buoy, baited up, and less than a minute later had a double hookup.  Gerry was in the chair, and Neal was reeling from the pole holder.  They each landed an 18-20 pound yellowfin tuna.  We tried jigging, and caught six skipjack and one small yellowfin tuna.  No bites on the ride home.  It wasn't a huge catch today, but not bad for a half day.  Aloha Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor at first light in 15-20 kph trades.  We headed to yesterday's buoy, but nothing was biting there today.  We headed out to another buoy, and half way there, we spotted some birds circling.  We followed the birds and saw a mahimahi jumping and chasing malolo (flying fish).  We trolled near him and got him to bite our port outrigger lure.  Matt hopped in the chair and reeled in a nice 20 pound mahimahi.  We got to the buoy, ran bait, and jigged, but only the little fish were biting.  We caught three aku and five small yellowfin tuna.  We saw whales, but no other big action.  It was a pleasure fishing with you again.  Aloha, Scot and Captain Steve

We left the harbor at 6:30 am in light winds and drizzle rain.  On the way to our buoy, our center outrigger came down, a mahimahi jumped, and fish on!  Matt jumped in the chair and reeled in in a 16 pound mahimahi.  We set the lures again and headed to the buoy.  Our starboard came down which had a marlin lure on it, so we thought we had a marlin.  It turned out to be another mahimahi.  Matt reeled in a 13 pounder.  We reached the buoy, baited up, and our outrigger hooked a big mahimahi.  Ashleigh jumped in the chair and the battle was on, 15 minutes later, Ashleigh had a nice 20 pounder onboard.  We were jigging while baiting and also caught 6 aku and 3 small yellowfin.  Then we received a mayday call and reluctantly had to cut our trip short and tow them in.  We made a circle pass with bait near the broken down boat and hooked a mahimahi.  We landed it right in front of them, then proceeded to tow the unfortunate boaters to the harbor.  Great fishing today!  We look forward to your Sunday trip.  Aloha, Scot and Captain Steve

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Jaden Rodriguez, Alex Rodriguez Jr., David Rodriguez, & Alex Rodriguez Sr. caught 11 mahimahi & 9 yellowfin
We left the harbor right time in very light winds.  We headed out in search of the sunken boat we found yesterday.  No bites on the way, but once we found the boat, we baited up and started catching mahimahi.  We had four on line at once, making for a little Chinese fire drill.  We landed them all then continued baiting and catching mahimahi.  We lost a couple, but caught four more mahimahi.  We were also jigging while baiting, and caught nine small yellowfin tuna and three skipjack tuna.  It was an action packed day with little time for photos.  We threw a skipjack out as live bait and got a marlin to bite, but he stole the bait.  We tried the other skipjack but we didn't see the marlin again.  We hit another buoy on our way back to the harbor and caught one more mahimahi.  Nice end to the day.  The whales are still putting on a nice show too.  It was a pleasure fishing with you and hope to see you again.   Aloha, Scot, and Captain Steve.
