We left the harbor a little after daybreak in 10-20 kph trades.  We arrived at our first buoy, ran bait, and got a double yellowfin hookup.  Tim and Jonathan each reeled in a 25 pounder.  They stopped biting, so we started jigging.  We began catching 5-8 pound skipjack and yellowfin tuna.  We tried bait again, but no takers.  We decided to troll for something bigger, but no luck.  We ran bait by the buoy again and got a triple yellowfin hookup.  We landed two nice sized yellowfin and lost the other one, right at the back of the boat.  No bites on the way in, but a great day filled with fun.  We enjoyed fishing with you and hope to see you again.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We left the harbor a little before 5 am in 15-25 kph trades.  We caught a 20 pound ono on the way to the buoy.  Good start to the day!  We got to the buoy and ran bait.  We started catching mahimahi, three at a time.  Everyone did a great job reeling and we caught a total of 18, four weighing over 30 pounds.  While we were catching the mahi, we had a triple yellowfin hookup and landed all three.  When the bites slowed we decided to jig.  We started getting double hookups of skipjack tuna.  We caught 13 skipjack and 2 more yellowfin.  One of the skipjack weighed in at 15 pounds, putting Jason Angelo on our top angler scoreboard for 2014.  Way to go Jason!  No bites on the way back to the harbor, but we had four flags flying, and our fish bags were full.  Awesome fishing everyone!  Congratulations Jim, on your 50th wedding anniversary!  It was a pleasure fishing with you again, and hope to see you soon.  Aloha, Scot, Hunter, & Captain Steve

We rolled out of the harbor at 5:15 am in 15-25 kph trades.  A little later than usual, but there had been an accident.  A telephone pole was down, and Kamehameha Hwy was at a standstill.   Our group kept us informed of the situation, which is all you can do with only one road, and a downed pole.
We headed to a buoy, ran bait, and lost our first 5 fish.  The day was looking dreadful.  Then we hooked a mahimahi and Jim reeled in a 12 pounder.  Then we caught another mahimahi, and another!  Things were picking up.  We kept running bait and hooked a big yellowfin tuna.  Jim jumped in the chair and a half hour later had an 80 pounder onboard.  Way to go Jim!  Then Brooke reeled in a nice 14 pound mahimahi and Morgan reeled in a 28 pound yellowfin.  We caught 3 more yellowfin, then we hooked a big mahimahi.  Jim reeled in a 34 pound mahimahi which beat our previous record by two pounds.  His top angler status was cut short when 5 minutes later Morgan reeled in a 43 pound mahimahi!  Way to go Morgan!   We tried to jig up an aku, but instead hooked a 28 pound yellowfin on light tackle.  We landed it then headed home.  Great fishing everyone!  Another fun filled day on the Kuuloa Kai.  Aloha Scot, Hunter, & Steve
