It was 6:00 as we pulled out of the slip on this day of 20 kph trades going to my old favorite buoy. At the buoy we baited but got no bites, so we jigged and got a few small shibi, then set up and trolled to another buoy. There we baited and Scot hooked a nice 33 pound shibi and Mark got it on 50. Next pass we hook a 30 pound ono in the side, it came up dead the way we like our onos. A few more mid size shibi and on the way in we took a mahi hit in the blind and Scot baited up 2 more. These guys were real troppers, Mark did great on the big ones. Aloha Capt Rusty

On our way we go a nice big mahi in an open school. We set out at 6:15 on this day of 10 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. Near the buoy we found some mahi and got one trolling. At the buoy we baited and Scot got one mahi on and we got it. The buoy was devoid of all birds and not much on the scope, so we set up and trolled out, lots of nothing was found so back to the buoy. Things looked a bit better so Scot baited but nothing came around. We trolled up and in from the buoy and found a few open schools of mahi and got 2 more there. These guys are going again tomorow, bigger and better. Good going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

Just a note from the captain: I am going on my first long range trip on the Independence in January (jan 22- feb 7) a 16 day adventure to the world wide mecca for big yellowfin tuna hurricane banks. It takes almost 3 days to get there, but it is worth it. I can't wait. The yellowfin can range up to 200-300+, big onos and mahi too sign me up, oh yea I am signed up and going. As of today there is one last spot open on this trip. I am going to have the independence sportfishing web site memorized by then. Aloha Capt Rusty

We left the harbor at 6:20 on this day of 15 kph trades going to my favorite buoy. On our way we hooked 2 small mahi on the same double hooked lure and got them both, that was wild. At the buoy we baited and caught a few smaller shibi as warm up fish then Scot got 2 big shibi on and one broke line and one came off. Next pass a big one ate a bait and Brad battled it in the chair, and with a little help from Scot he landed a 75 pounder, good going. A bunch more mid size ones and one more nice 30 pounder rounded out our catch. Brad did great on most of these  fish. Good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Then we came back with bait and Scot hooked 2 on each of the next two passes and we got them all. We got 2 more and we set up and went to a different buoy. There we baited and caught a few mid size shibi, and got bit off by a pack of small onos. Then we got a big shibi on and Nick got it almost to the boat and it came unhooked, bummer. Next we got another big shibi on and Mike got it. These guys did good on all these fish today. Back in the harbor only John and Nick were bold enough to eat shibi eyeballs, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going on this day of thanksgiving with 15 kph trades headed for my old favorite buoy. On the way we got baraged by a pack of striped marlin, they hit almost every lure more than once and did not hook up, bummer. At the buoy we took a double mahi and got both of them. Then we baited and Scot started hooking mahi on every pass, one two or three at a time. Olin did a great job keeping up with all the fish Scot was hooking. Then we got a big shibi on bait and got it too good going. Aloha Capt Rusty
A thanksgiving note: Be thankful for all we have, enjoy your family and friends, aloha from the Spencer Family.
