At first light off we go on this rainy dark morning with 10 kph south winds going to a buoy far away. Along the way we saw some whales and even a great breach that was only 100 yards away. At the buoy we jigged and the aku were biteing good and we ran one live. Only 2 shibi came in the boat and 13 aku were landed today. By mid morning the rain had gone and it was glassy smooth. On our way in we saw another great breach also real close to the boat. These folks did great today on these fish, good going. In the harbor only Jeff was bold enough to eat an aku eyeball gladly. You guys were great to have aboard, hope you can fish with us again. Aloha Capt Rusty

In the dark and off we go with 15 kph variable winds going to my old favorite buoy. Nothing happening at the buoy so we keep going outside. We found an aku school and caught 1 aku and 1 shibi in it, then on out. It was a big blank out there, on our way in we caught another aku. We did have the best whale sighting yet this season, they did not dive and came close to the boat for some great viewing. As Scot was reeling in the lures outside the harbor the rigger slamed with a kawakawa, for a last minute catch. These folks did great today, good going guys you were fun to have aboard. Aloha Capt Rusty

Right on time and off we go with 10 kph trades going to my next favorite buoy. Along the way out we saw a few pods of whales. In the area of the buoy we found an aku school and took a hit and got one nice aku. Then we followed the pile for 7 more miles with fish jumping but not biting, oh yea the buoy is gone. We went to another buoy and Scot baited up 2 small mahi and we landed them both. Off to another buoy and we baited up one more bigger mahi and a small shibi. These folks did good today on all these fish, good going.Aloha Capt Rusty

At the right time off we go with 10 kph winds going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we baited and got no hits so we jigged and caught small akus and ran one live. More jigging and we ran 2 live aku but no hits. Then we set up and trolled outside but only found one aku school that did not bite for us. It was a sunny day till we got in then it rained, good timing. These folks did great today, and were a real pleasure to have aboard today, good going, hope to see you again some day. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Chuck Kelley, Robby Kelley and Mikey Cote caught 6 shibi and 60 aku for an action packed day of fishing today
In the dark off we go with 10 kph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we baited but got no hits so we jigged and the aku were biting real good, it was doubles most of the time. One big 20 pound aku hooked up and Mikey did great landing it on 30. For awhile the aku were just boiling at the surface over a big area, it was wild action. These guys never got tired of reeling in aku after aku, they love to fish and it showed. Good going men you were a pleasure to have aboard. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Neemia Poasa, Hank O'Handley, Arthur Butts, Mickel Auger caught 5 shibi and 1 aku for a super day of fishing today on the Kuuloa Kai
With light trades blowing at 15 kph we headed to a fad. Once there we baited and hooked a small shibi in the side and landed it. Then we got a big shibi on and Hank fought a 70 pounder to the boat and we got it. We caught 2 more small shibi and then another big one hooked up and it was on a tiagra 30w  with 80 and Neemia landed an 80 pounder. We had a shark hookup and Hank reeled a 7 foot shark to the boat where it broke line and released itself.  These guys did a great job today on all these fish good going. In the harbor only Arthur and Mickel were bold enough to eat shibi eyeballs without hesitation, good to have you on board. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Mac McCullough, Derek Scofield, Ron McCullough and Christina McCullough caught 1 marlin 237# and 1 aku for a great day of fishing today
Right on time and off we go headed to a west side buoy with 10 kph trades. We saw lots of humpback whales as we went along the ledge, the most we have seen so far this season. Along the way we had a marlin come in and hit our soft head on the corner and hook up and jump once and then scream out 400 yards of line in a hurry. Mac was the guy in the chair and it was a long 2 hour fight before this fish came up hooked in the back and dead. The line had gone straight down and I figured it was probably dead and tail wraped in the first 20 minutes of the fight. Mac did great slowly working this nice marlin up to the boat, it was more that twice as hard as it would have been had it been hooked in the mouth. At the buoy we baited but got no hits so we jigged and caught 1 aku and ran it live. Back in the harbor the marlin weighed in at 237#, good going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

I twas real dark as we set out on this day of 10 kph winds going to a buoy far away.At the buoy we baited and hooked a 10 pound shibi and Steve landed it. Then we jigged and caught a bunch of small aku and ran one live. When we baited again Scot hooked a few more shibi and we landed 2 more. Then a big bird pile came by and we chased them down and hooked 3 nice size aku in it, as it ran outside real fast. No hits on the way in on this glassy day of no wind to speak of, to flat to be good. These guys did great  today good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Capt Rusty and Hunter and Steve Shiraishi caught 6 mahi and 2 shibi for some fun today
It was still dark as we took off on this day of 15 kph trades going to ny next favorite buoy. At the buoy we took a mahi hit and Hunter landed a nice 20 pound mahi. Then we came back with bait and hooked a mahi and got it. Then it was one or 2 a pass for awhile and 2 shibi too, it was great action on light line. When they stopped biting we set up and trolled outside but found nothing at all. These guys did great today good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Right on time and off we go on this day of 15 kph variable winds and 20 to 30+ foot surf going to a buoy far away. At the buoy we baited but there were no birds or fish so we left and trolled to another buoy. There we baited and started catching mahi right away. It was great action with one or two a pass for awhile there. Michael landed the biggest one a 19 pounder. On our way in the center slamed with a 10 pound aku and we got it. These guys did great today. The surf came down and was only 20 feet or so when we came down the channel, monday and Tuesday we are supposed to have surf up to 60 feet , the biggest surf in 40 years, it could get ugly in the harbor. All of these guys except Michael gladly ate mahi eyeballs some even had seconds, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty
