Wayne Warrington, Tom Furey, Carl Ekborg and Blair Sato caught 7 shibi for a bit of fun today
|
In the dark of 6ish off we go on this day of 20 kph trades going to my next favorite buoy. Along the way we saw our best whale show so far this season, lots of spouts and a few breaches fairly close. At the buoy we baited and had a shibi get hooked in the stomach and rip all the way to the yellow fin, Carl got the extra hard fight on that one. Then we had a double and Blair landed a nice 22 pound shibi. Then it slowed to a stop so we set up and trolled to another buoy. There we baited and jigged and caught a few small shibi only. These guys were troopers, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

In the dark and off we go on this day of 20+ trades going to my favorite buoy.Along the way we took a big aku hit in the blind and Pete landed a 20 pound aku. At the buoy we jigged and caught a few small shibi and ran one live. When we baited it was a long time before we had a bite but when we did it was a big shibi and Jim landed a nice 50 pounder. Then we had another hookup and one more big shibi came aboard. on our way in we found an open school and Scot baited up a nice 20 pound mahi and we got it. Right on time and off we go with 20+ trades going to my favorite buoy. Along the way we saw a few whales in the distance. At the buoy we baited but got no hits so we jigged and we caught some small shibi and ran one live. No hits so we set up and trolled out, where we found a big bird pile and caught one aku. Then we found a small floater and Scot baited up 3 nice mahi and they all came aboard, these guys did great on these fish. Back in the harbor Both John and Omar ate mahi eyeballs gladly. John and Annette are the only customers of mine that have fished on all three of the Kuuloa Kai's so far, and have gone 5 times over the years, great to see you folks again. Aloha Capt Rusty

The Goodrich family Jessica, Peg, Jason, Ralph and Kevin Hughes caught 2 mahi 5 shibi and 1 aku for lots of fun today
|
At first light off we go on this day of 20+ kph trades going to my next favorite buoy. Along the way we had a mystery hit that peeled some line and came off. At the buoy we took a double 10 pound shibi and landed them both. When we came back with bait we only had a slam and no hookup, so we set up and trolled to another buoy. There we baited and hooked 2 nice mahi and they came aboard. Next pass and we hook a shibi and it gives Peg a good fight on light line. Then we jigged and caught 2 small shibi and a small aku and ran the aku live. On our way in we had a mahi slam the rigger and a big bully was jumping around, but it came off on the way in, bummer. These folks did great on this rough day. Aloha Capt Rusty

The Enright Family Brett, Carson, Zachary, Kimberly caught 1 mahi 3 shibi and 2 aku for a fun day
|
We had 15 kph trades this morning as we headed for my next favorite buoy. Along the way we had a marlin strike that screamed out 250 yards of line and never jumped once, Brett reeled it in all the way to 10 yards to go and it shook it's head and came off, bummer. At the bouy we baited and Scot hooked a small mahi and we got it. Then the rigger took off with a big shibi that took out 300 yards of line going straight down, Brett worked it all the way to can you guess 10 yards to go and it broke line after a 40 minute fight. We then got a 10 pound shibi and a few aku on bait too. On the way in we had another marlin hit that knoked the rigger down and hit it one more time but never got the hook. In the harbor Brett and Zachary both ate mahi eyeballs, good going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

Next pass and an aku and a big mahi bite and we get them both. When we came back with bait Scot hooked a nice shibi and it came aboard. Lots more baiting and no bites so off w go to another buoy, There we take a double small ono and get them both. We came back with bait and Scot hooked 2 mahi and we landed them too. These folks did great today, and we saw another humpback today as well thanks to sharp eyed Line, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty
